Tropical Geometry for Applied Mathematics

Tropical convexity is known to be related to graph algorithms and combinatorial optimization. We survey some classical results and show how they are connected with more recently studied objects in tropical geometry, most notably, tight spans of finite metric spaces (for phylogenetic analysis) and tropical Grassmannians.
