Analytification (in the sense of Berkovich) and tropicalization of algebraic varieties defined over valued fields are closely related. Analytification gives more complex objects, but is a functor, so it applies well to maps, and should allow a better understanding of tropicalization of maps. The talk deals with the interplay between analytification and tropicalization, focusing on the case of curves; if time permits we'll see how to use this relation to get information on ramification of tropical maps.
